Bronze sculptor of the poet John Betjeman at St Pancras.
The Meeting Place at St Pancras International, created by sculptor Paul Day, is a monumental bronze celebrating love, reunion and the romance of rail travel.
Unveiled in 2007, the 9-metre, 20-tonne sculpture has become one of London’s best-known meeting points. This image was taken from the ring of bronze sculptures at the foot of the towering statue, which depicts a couple locked in a passionate embrace.
On the bronze frieze at the foot of the statue, scenes of departure and return unfold. Here, soldiers leave for war, waved off by fearful loved ones, before returning injured, frail and traumatised. It is deeply moving.
