I witnessed the persecution of the Rohingya in 2017. In August that year, hundreds of thousands of people fled the worsening violence in Myanmar's Rakhine State, described as ethnic cleansing and genocide by UN agencies and human rights groups. This is the haunted expression of a Rohingya man now living in one of the sprawling camps in the Cox's Bazar district of Bangladesh. In the camps, I heard horrific stories of murder, gang rape, and children shot or and burned alive.
